Gary Chapman has over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Gary began their career in 1997 as an Adolescent Therapist at Behavioral Heath Services of South Georgia. In 1999, they became the Executive Director at Berrien County Collaborative - Family Connection and Communities In Schools. From 2005 to 2007, they were the Principal at Berrien County Board of Education. Gary then joined Communities In Schools, Inc. as the Vice President of Field Operations, Deputy Vice President of Field Operations and Director of Performance Learning Centers. In 2011, they were promoted to Executive Vice President of Network Impact and Operations where they drove change management and quality improvement initiatives and secured $55M in resources. In 2017, they became the Executive Vice President of Business Development at the Communities In Schools National Office and secured over $3M in private and public funding. In 2020, they joined the Venture Leadership Collective as the Managing Director and served as an interim executive to move organizations to their strategic goals. Currently, they are the Interim Chief Program Officer through VLC at America's Promise Alliance.
Gary Chapman has a long history of education, beginning with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Valdosta State University, which they earned between 1993 and 1997. Gary then went on to obtain a Master's degree in Social Work from the same university between 1998 and 2000. In 2004 and 2006, they earned a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Administration, General from Valdosta State University. In 2012, they obtained a Certification in Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management from Harvard Business School. Most recently, in 2020 and 2021, they earned a Certification in Diversity & Inclusion from Cornell University.
