Gene Malkin has held various positions in the software engineering and bioinformatics fields since 1992. Gene began their career as Project Manager at Holo-Or, Ltd., where they supervised the design, development and optical testing of diffractive multifocal rigid and soft contact lenses and intraocular lenses, as well as developed software for design and production of ophthalmic lenses. From 1996 to 2000, they were a Senior Software Engineer at Precitech, Inc., where they designed and developed software systems for on-machine metrology and correction of ultra-precise surfaces produced by diamond turning. Gene then worked as a Principal Software Engineer at Gerber Technology from 2000 to 2006, where they developed innovative geometrical algorithms for the automatic nesting of parts on irregular patterns of material and redesigned legacy mathematical code for modern multithreaded architecture. From 2006 to 2017, Gene was a Senior Scientist and Scientific Software Engineer at U.S. Genomics, and then a Consultant at Siena Analytics from 2017 to 2019. Most recently, they have been a Principal Algorithm Engineer at Veo Robotics, Inc., where they have designed algorithms and developed software for calibration, characterization, benchmarking and testing of a Time-of-Flight (ToF) IR sensor, as well as developed calibration of a dual-channel 3D sensor for robotics safety application.
Gene Malkin obtained their Ph.D. in Laser Spectroscopy from the University of Tartu in 1991, following their M.Sc. in Solid State Physics from the same university, which they obtained in 1984.
