James Russell

James Russell serves as General Counsel at VeraSafe, overseeing legal affairs related to sales and vendor contracts, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, strategic partnerships, intellectual property, and enterprise risk management since November 2020. Prior to this role, James was Associate General Counsel at Capitol Hill Group, where responsibilities included advising on contracts, legal compliance, deal structuring, and human resources from May 2018 to November 2020. James began a legal career at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP as an Associate in the banking and credit group, focusing on secured and unsecured debt financings for public companies and private equity sponsors from October 2013 to April 2018, after serving as a Summer Associate at both Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey & Leonard, LLP. James holds a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from the University of Virginia School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Government, Economics, and Philosophy from the University of Virginia.
