Martin Tozer

Computational Linguist/Squad Lead/Project Manager at Verbio

Martin Tozer began their career in 2006 as an English Language Assistant for the Ministère de l'Éducation nationale. In 2008, they moved to AXA Assistance Spain as an International Assistance Administrator, where they were responsible for back-office coordination of medical and travel assistance cases, logistics and cost-control, medical translations, claims and billing, as well as front-office support and quality assurance in a high volume call centre. In 2013, they joined Verbio Technologies as a Linguistics/Speech Technologies Intern, where they worked on semi-automatic improvement of labelling of English TTS speech database and modelling speaker-dependent pronunciation variation. In 2014, they were promoted to Computational Linguist/Squad Lead/Project Manager, where they were responsible for team leadership and mentoring of English-language computational linguists, as well as design, evolution and maintenance of open-ended question IVR systems, creation and improvement of language models, design of open-ended question categories, development of (A)BNF grammars and wordspotting rules, preparation, direction and documentation of regular workshops with clients, error analysis and improvement of classifier and IVR flow rules, and TTS voice creation projects for new clients. In 2017, they moved to everis as a Public Sector Technical Consultant.

Martin Tozer obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in French and Linguistics from The University of Queensland in 2005. In 2011, they obtained the Catalan C2 (Nivell D) certification from the Departament d'Ensenyament - Generalitat de Catalunya. In 2012, they obtained a Master's degree in Natural Language Processing and Human Language Technology from both the University of Wolverhampton and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
