Cory Powell

Cory Powell has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several industries. Starting in 1989, Cory worked as a Copy Editor for the Burlington Free Press before becoming a News Editor at the Anderson Independent-Mail in 1990. From 1994 to 2003, Cory served as a Designer and later as the Design Director at The Charlotte Observer.

In 2003, Cory joined the Star Tribune, where they held various roles, including Presentation Director, Assistant Managing Editor, Deputy Managing Editor/Visual Journalism, Managing Editor for presentation and innovation, and Managing Editor for new products. During this time, Cory led the launch and redesign of the Star Tribune's sport-specific websites and championed the newspaper's mobile strategy. Cory also managed editors and reporters, generating significant revenue for the organization.

After their time at the Star Tribune, Cory served as the Vice President of Content Strategy and Development at Total Expert from 2018 to 2019. In this role, Cory led the creation and deployment of automated marketing content and campaigns for enterprise clients in the mortgage, banking, and financial services industries.

In 2020, Cory took on roles at iPondr, starting as the Chief Content Officer and later transitioning to the role of Chief Experience Officer. At iPondr, Cory recruited and led a team of journalists, developed a digital platform, and created a self-sustaining custom content studio.

Most recently, Cory joined Versare in 2023 as the Senior Director of Marketing. In this position, Cory is responsible for establishing the vision and voice of the company, targeting specific markets and buyer personas, supporting sales growth strategies, and refining processes for creative team work.

Cory Powell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from The University of Kansas. They also attended Kent Denver School, though no degree or field of study was specified. Additionally, Cory Powell has obtained certification as an OKR Coach from Coursera in 2023.
