Lead System Safety Engineer at VERTEX AEROSPACE LLC

Nikolaos Kapodistrias has extensive work experience in the field of system safety engineering and aviation. Nikolaos started their career in 1999 as an OH-58 D (I) maintenance technician in the US Army. Nikolaos then worked in various roles within the US Army, including quality control inspector, quality control supervisor, and Regimental Aviation Maintenance Office (RAMO) Helicopter Subject Matter Expert (SME).

In 2014, Nikolaos joined the US Army Special Operations Aviation Command (USASOAC) as an aircraft fleet sustainment/acquisitions and safety professional. From 2016 to 2019, they served in the US Army Aviation, Special Operation Aviation Training Battalion as an aviation safety and systems professional and aviation platform instructor.

After leaving the US Army, Nikolaos took a break to focus on professional development and travel. During this time, they visited 13 countries and furthered their education. In 2020, they worked as an Operations Specialist for LaGuardia Gateway Partners.

In 2021, Nikolaos worked as a system safety engineer for SAIC and Basic Commerce and Industries, Inc. (Dahlgren). Nikolaos then joined Booz Allen Hamilton in 2022 as a Lead System Safety Engineer, where they worked until 2023. Currently, they hold the position of Lead System Safety Engineer at VERTEX AEROSPACE LLC, starting in November 2023.

Nikolaos Kapodistrias completed a Certificate in System Safety at USC Viterbi School of Engineering in 2023. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Aeronautics/Aviation/Aerospace Science and Technology, General from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2020. In 2018, they also obtained a Certification in Aviation Safety and Security with a focus on Safety Management System from USC Viterbi School of Engineering.
