Akira Shimizu

Akira Shimizu is a Medicinal Chemistry Research Scientist at Vertex Pharmaceuticals since May 2019. Prior to this role, Akira served as a Graduate Student in Chemistry at Stanford University from September 2013 to April 2019, focusing on the synthesis of complex natural products and the design of simplified natural product analogs within the Paul Wender group. Akira also gained teaching experience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, including a position as the head teaching assistant for an introductory organic chemistry course with approximately 400 students. Akira holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemistry from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh.
