Elaad Applebaum, PhD

Lead Data Scientist at Very

Elaad Applebaum, PhD has a diverse work experience in the field of data science and research. From 2015 to 2021, Elaad worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at Rutgers University, where they conducted various astrophysical simulations and utilized maximum likelihood methods to reduce model error in galaxy properties. They also gained experience in running simulations, processing data, engineering features, and visualizing results.

In 2020, Elaad participated in The Erdős Institute's Data Science Boot Camp project competition and won for their project on text classification. They developed an ensemble classifier in Python to identify authors from text samples, achieving 93% accuracy. They also engineered syntactic and lexical features from unstructured text data sampled from Project Gutenberg eBooks.

Prior to their PhD, Elaad held positions as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2014, and as an Undergraduate Researcher at INFN and the Weizmann Institute of Science in 2014 and 2013, respectively.

Currently, Elaad Applebaum serves as a Senior Data Scientist II at Very, a fully-distributed IoT engineering firm. Their role involves partnering with clients to build systems for smart manufacturing, smart energy and utilities, consumer electronics, and connected wellness.

Elaad Applebaum, PhD completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Physics at Rutgers University from 2015 to 2021. Prior to that, they obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) in Physics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where they studied from 2011 to 2015.

In addition to their academic achievements, Elaad Applebaum has also obtained several certifications. Elaad earned the "AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner" certification from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in July 2022. In June 2020, they won the 1st Place Project in the Data Science Boot Camp at The Erdős Institute. Furthermore, they completed the Data Science Boot Camp at The Erdős Institute in June 2020 and received the "Introduction to SQL" certification from DataCamp in July 2018.
