Sophie Gilbert serves as the Lead Scientist for Biodiversity at Vibrant Planet, focusing on R&D initiatives related to biodiversity and climate-smart land use planning since August 2023. In addition, Sophie is an Affiliate Professor at the University of Idaho and is actively involved with several organizations, including the World Economic Forum as a member of the Working Group on Biodiversity Crediting, and the Biodiversity Credit Alliance. Previously, Sophie held the position of Senior Lead for Natural Capital Development at NCX, where innovative tools for biodiversity co-benefits in carbon projects were created. Sophie's academic career at the University of Idaho includes roles as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor, emphasizing social-ecological systems research. With a Ph.D. in Wildlife Biology and Conservation from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Sophie also contributed to significant postdoctoral research on ecological impacts in collaboration with various stakeholders.
