Metadel Abegaz

Metadel Abegaz has a diverse work experience in the field of research. They currently hold the position of Senior Research Associate at Vicinitas Therapeutics starting from October 2022. Prior to that, from February 2020 to November 2022, they worked as a Research Associate II at Pliant Therapeutics.

Metadel's experience also includes working as a Research Associate of Blue Marble Space Institute of Science at NASA Ames Research Center. During this time, from June 2018 to February 2020, they conducted research on the physiological implications of microgravity on cardiovascular tissues. They were responsible for optimizing various assays and analyzing assay results to understand the long-term effects of spaceflight.

Before joining NASA, Metadel pursued their M.S degree at San Francisco State University. From July 2015 to August 2018, they conducted research on the effect of thermally transduced biotic stress on reproductive physiology in two intertidal porcelain crab species. They used molecular techniques to measure stress response genes and vitellogenin to understand the impact of distribution shifts on animal populations.

Metadel Abegaz pursued a Master's degree in Marine Sciences from San Francisco State University from 2015 to 2018. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology, General from the University of Minnesota Duluth between 2007 and 2011. In 2010, they also had the opportunity to study abroad at Curtin University, where they focused on Business/Commerce, General for a semester.
