Professor Michael Feneley received his training in medicine at the University of New South Wales (MB,BS 1st Class Hons, 1978; MD, 1986), Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP, 1984) and American College of Cardiology (FACC, 1987). He is a cardiologist and Director of the Heart Lung Programme and Cardiology at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, and oversees the Departments of Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Heart and Lung Transplantation.
He is Conjoint Professor of Medicine at the University of New South Wales, and as a cardiac physiologist, has extensive research experience in both large and small animal models of disease. Professor Feneley is the Director of the Cardiac Physiology and Transplantation Division at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, and oversees its Cardiovascular Mechanics program.
Professor Feneley served as President of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (to 2008), was Chairman of the Commonwealth Government’s Cardiac Imaging Management Committee, and in 2008 completed a five year term as Chairman of the St Vincent’s Campus Medical Council. He is also the longest serving President of the Art Gallery Society of NSW.
