Sonya Abt

Sonya Abt has over 20 years of work experience in the field of community development. Sonya is currently serving as the Director of Community Development for the Village of Montgomery, IL. Prior to this, they held the position of Community Development Director at the Village of Riverside, where they oversaw various responsibilities such as building, code enforcement, preservation, planning, and economic development. Sonya also worked as a Village Planner at the Village of Bartlett, where they reviewed subdivisions, site plans, and special uses, prepared staff reports, and provided information to residents and developers. Sonya started their career as an Associate Planner at the Village of Carol Stream and earlier worked as an Administrative Assistant at The Cara Program. Throughout their career, they have demonstrated their expertise in planning, economic development, and administrative support.

Sonya Abt obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Urban Planning from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1998. Sonya then pursued a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago, which they successfully completed in 2003. Sonya Abt does not have any additional certifications.
