Al Ortega

Al Ortega currently holds the position of James Birle Endowed Chair Professor of Energy Technology at Villanova University since August 2018. Previously, Al Ortega served as Dean of the School of Engineering and Sobrato Professor of Engineering at Santa Clara University from August 2017 to August 2018, and from September 2006 to August 2016, Al Ortega was an Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Programs and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research at Villanova University. Additional experience includes a role as Program Officer at the National Science Foundation from 2004 to 2006, a professorship at the University of Arizona from 1988 to 2004, and a position as Member Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories from 1986 to 1988. Al Ortega holds a PhD and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at El Paso.
