Jean Bender

Jean Bender has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Jean began their career as a Process Engineer at Procter and Gamble in 1989. Jean then joined Genentech, Inc. in 1992 where they worked as a Principal Engineer and Senior Group Leader for almost two decades. In 2011, they joined MedImmune as the Director of BioProcess Engineering and later became the Senior Director of BioProcess Engineering before leaving in 2018. In 2018, Jean joined Visterra Inc. as the Vice President of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology. In 2019, they became a Scientific Advisory Board Member at Bio-Works Technologies AB. Prior to their roles in industry, they served as the Past Chair of the NorCal Section at AICHE from 2009 to 2011.

Jean Bender earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University, where they studied from 1985 to 1989. Subsequently, they pursued a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley from 1990 to 1992.
