Laura Derry has extensive work experience in improvisation, training, and coaching. Laura began their career in 1990, offering communication and applied improv trainings to individuals and businesses in the Bay Area and beyond. Laura is also a professional improviser, having performed on radio and television. From 1991 to 2021, they worked at BATS Improv as a coach, performer, and applied improv trainer. In 2007, Laura joined Miami Ad School as a stand-up comedy improv instructor. Laura currently serves as the Chief Spontaneity Officer and Improv Instructor at Voice One Training, where they continue to share their expertise in improv. Additionally, since 2015, Laura has been the Lead Simulation Specialist for Sales/Demos at Mursion, providing demos of the company's avatar technology in various industries.

Laura Derry attended the University of California, Santa Cruz from 1986 to 1990, where they pursued a degree in Theatre Arts. During their time at the university, they focused on subjects such as Acting, Stage Management, Directing, and Psychology.

In addition to their formal education, Laura obtained several certifications in various fields. In June 2022, they completed training programs such as "Becoming an Ally to All," "Bystander Training: From Bystander to Upstander," "Dealing with Microaggression as an Employee," "Discussing Racism with Dr. Christina Greer," "Fighting Gender Bias at Work," "Skills for Inclusive Conversations," and "Supporting Allyship and Anti-Racism at Work," all provided by LinkedIn.

Furthermore, in October 2015, they became a Mursion Certified Sim-Specialist after completing the certification program offered by Mursion.
