Robert Preissl

Director of Software Engineering at Volley Automation

Robert Preissl has extensive work experience in software engineering and team management. Robert is currently the Director of Software Engineering at Volley Automation. Prior to this, they worked as a Software Engineer at Apple and Director of Software Engineering at Nimble Robotics. Robert also held positions as Lead Software Engineer at Apple and Engineering Manager at Kitty Hawk, where they provided technical guidance and mentorship to engineers building simulation software for sensor fusion codes. Preissl has experience in performance engineering, working as a Senior Software Engineer at Ticketfly. Robert also worked as a Software Engineering Researcher at IBM Research San Jose, where they lead the effort for scaling neural simulation code and created a successful run on up to 96 racks of an IBM Blue Gene/Q system. Preissl's postdoctoral research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and visiting researcher position at Princeton Plasma Physics Lab focused on maximizing performance and scalability of magnetic fusion applications for large-scale systems. Robert also served as a Research Scholar at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Robert Preissl earned a Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from Johannes Kepler Universität Linz in 2006. Robert later pursued their PhD in Computer Science from the same university between 2006 and 2010. In addition to their academic credentials, they obtained certifications in Machine Learning from Coursera in November 2015 and in the Self-Driving Car Nanodegree Program from Udacity in October 2017.
