Dewey Dunnington has a diverse work experience. In 2008, they worked as the Acadia Environmental Society Coordinator for the Acadia Students' Union. In 2009, they served as a Senior Counselor for the Adirondack Trail Improvement Society. From 2011 to 2013, they worked in various roles at Acadia University, including being a Teaching Assistant and a Lakes Research Assistant.

In 2012 and 2013, they worked as a Project Coordinator at GeoGrid Environmental Inc., where they managed oil and gas remediation projects. In 2015 and 2016, they worked as a Project Manager at Acadia University, overseeing an NSERC ENGAGE partnership project.

In 2016, Dunnington worked as a Science Interpreter on an expedition with Adventure Canada. Dewey then interned at RStudio, Inc. in 2019, working on developing features for the ggplot2 R plotting framework.

Starting in 2020, they joined Fisheries and Oceans Canada as a Physical Scientist, focusing on developing R and Python infrastructure for the Argo program and Barrow Strait Real-time Observatory. Most recently, in 2021, they joined Voltron Data as a Senior Software Engineer.

Dewey Dunnington started their education at Middlebury Union High School from 2003 to 2007, graduating with a high school degree. They then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Environmental Science at Acadia University from 2007 to 2011. In 2010, Dewey briefly attended The University of Auckland for physical geography studies. They continued their education at Acadia University, earning a Master of Science degree in Geology from 2014 to 2015. Lastly, Dewey completed their education at Dalhousie University, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Civil and Resource Engineering from 2017 to 2020. They also obtained their Professional Geoscientist certification from the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Nova Scotia in March 2020.
