Kas Houthuijs

Project Coordinator Biohack Academy at Waag Futurelab

Kas Houthuijs currently serves as a Lecturer in Ecological Art & Design at the Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam and teaches Bio Design at HKU (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht), where attention is given to Bioart and Biodesign. Houthuijs has developed workshops focused on these disciplines and collaborates with others to explore innovative technologies in art through the Expertisecentrum Creatieve Technologie. As a certified Bio Safety Officer, Houthuijs advises on biosafety regulations and has managed the Biohack Academy, fostering collaboration between artists and scientists. Previous roles include educational consulting at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, project management for literacy initiatives, and course coordination in evolutionary developmental biology. Houthuijs holds a Master's degree in Neurobiology and Neurosciences and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Amsterdam.
