Rachael Steer

Strategy Manager at WaterAid

Rachael Steer has a diverse work experience in the nonprofit sector. Rachael started their career in 2011 as a Fundraising Executive at the NSPCC, where they supported senior fundraisers with various donor recruitment campaigns. Rachael then moved on to The Children's Trust in 2012, where they worked as an Individual Giving Coordinator and managed the coordination and development of acquisition and donor development programs. Rachael also developed a new donor retention strategy and introduced new marketing channels to the program.

In 2014, Rachael joined the British Red Cross as a Direct Marketing Officer and was responsible for managing and developing cash supporter acquisition and retention campaigns across various channels. Rachael also liaised with international and communications teams to ensure consistent and accurate information.

In 2016, Rachael had a brief role as a Direct Marketing Campaign Coordinator at The Royal British Legion, where they managed direct marketing campaigns and supported the development of new regular giving and welcome programs.

From 2016 onwards, Rachael worked at WaterAid in various roles. As a Direct Marketing Officer, they managed the relationship with over 300,000 individuals who supported the organization with a regular gift. Rachael developed a program of communications to deepen engagement with supporters and used data insights to inform interactions. Rachael then moved on to become a Senior Direct Marketing Officer at WaterAid, where they led the High-Value and Cash Giving programs and was responsible for segmentation strategies, communications planning, and performance monitoring.

Most recently, Rachael worked as a Strategic Planning Manager and Strategy Manager at WaterAid. In these roles, they coordinated the alignment of the organization's core fundraising and communication activities, facilitated collaboration between teams, and shaped public-facing creative themes and priorities.

Throughout their career, Rachael has demonstrated strong skills in campaign management, donor engagement, data analysis, and strategic planning.

Rachael Steer obtained a Professional Diploma in Data Driven Marketing from The Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM) between the years 2018 and 2021. Prior to this, they completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in BA Joint Honours in History & English Language/Literature from the University of Leeds from 2008 to 2011.
