Bert Middel

Bert Middel has held various prominent positions throughout a distinguished career in public service and education. Since January 2012, Bert Middel serves as Dijkgraaf and Chairman of Waterschap Noorderzijlvest and the Kring van Dijkgraven. Prior to this role, Bert Middel was the Mayor of Smallingerland from December 2005 to December 2011. Bert Middel also held a position as Senator in the Eerste Kamer der Staten-Generaal from May 2003 to May 2007, actively engaging in defense and asylum policy as a member of the PvdA-fractie. From September 2002 to December 2005, Bert Middel served as a Lector at NHL Hogeschool, focusing on social exclusion in research. Additionally, Bert Middel was a Member of the Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal for the PvdA-fractie from November 1989 to May 2002, during which time various social issues were addressed. Bert Middel holds degrees in Sociology and Teaching Credentials from the University of Groningen, where studies were completed between 1971 and 1975.
