Job description

About Wayflyer

Our mission is to give the world access to the best products by empowering great brands to reach their growth potential. Join us!

Wayflyer is revolutionising eCommerce by levelling the playing field for founders across the world. Our first product, the Merchant Cash Advance, solves a major pain point for brands: access to short-term finance to fund inventory and marketing spend. Since launching in April 2020, we’ve deployed over $3.3bn in funding to over 4,000 eCommerce founders across 11 countries.

We’ve helped companies like WildDock & Bay and Branch take their businesses to the next level. Check out this video from Davie Fogherty, another one of our brilliant customers, giving a great explanation of what we do and how we helped The Oodie go from strength to strength.

We’re a fast-growing, venture-backed startup that serves a critical need for eCommerce entrepreneurs. You'll be joining an ambitious, collaborative team that's working on a huge opportunity.

We announced our Series B in February 2022 raising $150m in funding at $1.6bn valuation; backed by world-leading VCs including QED and DST Global.

Teams at Wayflyer are truly cross-functional. Regardless of your role at Wayflyer, you'll work with a variety of different disciplines and teams from around the world on a multitude of challenging projects and game-changing products to revolutionise the eCommerce landscape.

Job Overview

Wayflyer, a leading fintech specializing in innovative financing solutions for ecommerce and wholesale customers, is seeking a dynamic Partnerships Director. This role is designed for a visionary leader capable of accelerating our growth and strengthening our presence in the U.S. market. The Partnerships Director role will be instrumental in generating a robust pipeline of leads through strategic and affiliate alliances within the ecommerce ecosystem, enhancing Wayflyer's brand visibility, and building a high-performing team to sustain this key channel.

This role represents a unique opportunity to shape the trajectory of a rapidly growing fintech innovator, contributing directly to its expansion and success in the U.S. market. If you are a strategic, results-driven leader with a passion for building relationships and driving business growth, Wayflyer invites you to apply to become part of our journey.

Please be aware that only candidates living in the New York area will be considered for this position, as local presence is required for client interactions.

What you'll do

  • Lead Generation: Develop and implement strategies to identify and engage potential ecommerce partners, leveraging data and insights to build a sustainable pipeline of financing leads.
  • Brand Expansion: Spearhead initiatives to amplify Wayflyer's brand presence across the U.S. initially, and then globally, aligning with the company’s strategic objectives and market opportunities. This will include representing Wayflyer in key networks and events to facilitate deeper personal relationships within the ecosystem.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and manage a partnerships team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and performance to meet and exceed business targets.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Forge and nurture high-impact partnerships with key players in the ecommerce industry, including platforms, aggregators, and service providers.
  • Affiliate Partnerships: Develop an extensive network of partners within the ecommerce and wholesale ecosystems who can promote Wayflyer to their customer base or audience.
  • Innovation Lead: Trial and implement novel approaches to expand and/or activate Wayflyer’s partner network to ensure that we build long term buy-in and strong relationships with our partners.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including sales, marketing, finance, and product teams, to ensure cohesive strategy execution and optimization of partnership opportunities.
  • Market Intelligence: Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and market challenges to enable Wayflyer adapt and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Performance Metrics and Accountability: Define and track key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of partnership activities and their impact on overall business growth. Take ownership of the growth of Wayflyer’s business through partnership channels.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in business development, partnerships, or strategic roles within the fintech or ecommerce sectors.
  • Proven track record of building and leading teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong network within the ecommerce ecosystem with a history of successful partnership development, execution and value creation.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence at an executive level.
  • Strategic thinker with a robust analytical skill set and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Understanding of financial products and services relevant to consumer brands.
  • Highly motivated and entrepreneurial spirit with a drive to achieve results.
  • Outstanding leadership qualities and a reputation for integrity, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Adaptable and resilient, with a knack for problem-solving under pressure.
  • Visionary with a clear focus on long-term objectives and the agility to pivot strategies as necessary.

What is important to point out is that you can do most or all of the above mentioned and can point to your real experience doing it. You’ve probably done it at companies of different shapes, sizes and industries. Given what we do, experience in financial services, fintech and business-to-business organisations is particularly interesting to us.

On top of that, you’re amazing at prioritisation. You make sure you’re not spread too thin while also giving teams the support they need. You spend your time on the things that make a positive difference. People get why you’ve chosen to say ‘yes’, ‘no’, or ‘not yet’, and are ok with it.

What you’re like as a person and how you treat people is a big deal for us. People love working with you. You’re helpful and generous with your time and knowledge. People love helping you back. People know where they stand with you.

You’re always looking to learn and grow, on a personal and professional level. And you’re always looking to help others learn and grow by sharing your own knowledge and experience.

You know why diversity, equality, inclusion and belonging matters, and speak up when we can do better.
