Hayg Oshagan is the founder and director of New Michigan Media, leading a network of ethnic and minority media in Michigan since 2008. Currently serving as vice chair of the Michigan Immigrants and Refugees Council, Hayg enhances accessibility for immigrants and refugees in state programs, a role appointed by Governor Whitmer. As an associate professor in the Media Arts & Studies Program at Wayne State University since 1998, Hayg educates students in various media industries and academic pursuits. Additionally, Hayg co-chairs the Detroit City Council’s Immigration Task Force and has held leadership positions in multiple committees. Hayg previously served as an assistant professor at the University of Michigan and as a visiting scholar at Stanford University. Hayg holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
