Nick Peñaranda has over 19 years of work experience. Nick started their career in 2002 as an Avionics Technician and Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. In 2008, they became a Learning Center Tutor at Northern Virginia Community College. In 2010, they began working as a Graduate Research Assistant at George Mason University, and in 2012, they were an intern at the Air Force Research Laboratory. From 2013 to 2017, they worked as a Software Engineer at Beep, where they were responsible for embedded Linux systems, Android and iOS app development and publishing, web front- and backend design and implementation, API design and implementation, 3rd party hardware and software integrations at the embedded device and mobile levels, setting up and administering continuous integration and automated testing, and electronics prototyping, troubleshooting and assembly. Since 2017, they have been a Senior Software Engineer II at Credit Karma, where they have helped design and implement product features like Dashboard Hubs and Credit Actions, and they have also designed and helped maintain large parts of Credit Karma's GraphQL development platform. In 2021, they began working as a Software Engineer at Weights & Biases.
Nick Peñaranda attended George Mason University from 2009 to 2015, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2011, a Master of Arts in Human Factors & Applied Cognition in 2013, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Factors & Applied Cognition (unfinished) in 2015. Prior to attending George Mason University, Peñaranda attended Northern Virginia Community College from 2007 to 2009, earning an Associate of Science in Psychology.
