Shawn Long

Shawn Long, MD, MBA has a diverse work experience in the healthcare industry. Shawn currently serves as the Community Medical Director at WellBe Senior Medical, starting in September 2023. Prior to this, they held the position of Medical Director, Virtual Primary Care at Optum from January 2022 to October 2023, and Medical Director, Primary Care at MedExpress from January 2022 to October 2023. From January 2015 to January 2022, they served as the Chief Medical Officer at Western Maryland Healthcare Corporation. Additionally, they worked as the Medical Director, Wound Management and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center at West Virginia University Hospitals, Inc. from January 2013 to December 2014, and as a Physician at WVUH CHEAT LAKE PHYSICIANS from September 2011 to December 2014.

Shawn Long, MD, MBA has a diverse education history. Shawn began their medical education at West Virginia University School of Medicine, where they earned their Doctor of Medicine degree in 2000. Shawn then pursued further specialization in the field of Family Medicine through the Family Medicine Residency Program at the same institution from 2000 to 2003.

In 1996, Shawn completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology/Biological Sciences at West Virginia University. Later, they decided to expand their knowledge beyond medicine and earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Western Governors University in 2022, focusing on Health/Health Care Administration/Management.

To enhance their expertise in healthcare strategy, Shawn is currently pursuing a Certificate in Health Care Strategy from Harvard Business School Online, which is expected to be completed in 2023. In addition to their education, they hold additional certifications, including being a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, obtained in 2018, and a Harvard Healthcare Strategy certification from Harvard Business School Online.
