Caroline Howard

Caroline Howard is a highly experienced scientific manager with a focus on eukaryotic biodiversity and herbal medicine. Currently serving as a Senior Scientific Manager at the Wellcome Sanger Institute since April 2020, Caroline leads the Tree of Life Core Laboratory team, overseeing the generation and analysis of reference genome sequences. Previously, as Principal Scientist at the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency from January 2014 to April 2019, Caroline led a laboratory team dedicated to quality standard setting for herbal drugs. Earlier experience includes a role as Senior Research Fellow at De Montfort University, where Caroline managed the Biomolecular Technology Group and co-authored grant applications. Caroline holds a PhD in DNA-based identification of herbal medicines from De Montfort University, completed in 2010.
