Roberto Amato is an accomplished professional in the field of computational biology, currently serving as the Director of Computational Biology for Infectious Diseases at GSK since September 2022. Simultaneously, Roberto has held the position of Head of Data Analysis and Translation at the Wellcome Sanger Institute since July 2015, leading a team focused on analyzing genomic data related to infectious diseases and translating results into actionable insights. Previous roles include Senior Staff Scientist and Staff Scientist, where Roberto specialized in the population genetics of malaria parasites. Prior experience includes a research associate position at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics and a postdoctoral fellowship at Tigem. Roberto earned a Doctorate in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics from Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, complemented by a visiting student program in population genetics at the University of Chicago, and a Master degree in Computer Science from the same university.
