Tariq Khokhar

Tariq Khokhar leads Wellcome's work on data and digital technologies that are transforming how science makes discoveries and solves the urgent health challenges facing everyone.

Tariq heads up a multidisciplinary team of data and technology experts, who shape and fund data science initiatives to support Wellcome's mission. The team focuses on making sure the technologies that underpin health and science research are effective, well-governed and equitable.

Prior to joining Wellcome in late 2019, Tariq was Chief Data Scientist and Managing Director of the Rockefeller Foundation in New York, and Senior Data Scientist and Global Data Editor of the World Bank in Washington DC.

He also serves as Board Chair of DataKind UK, a charity which mobilises the talents of pro-bono data scientists to help social sector organisations in the UK achieve their missions. Tariq is a mathematician and computer scientist by training.
