David Marks is executive vice president and head of Wells Fargo Commercial Capital, which is a group of market-leading businesses that provide specialized lending, investing, and servicing to more than 400,000 customers globally through asset-based lending, equipment finance, floorplanning, franchise finance, and other secured financing for Wells Fargo clients.
Commercial Capital also delivers equity investments in renewable energy and other merchant banking activities for Wholesale Banking clients. In addition, the group supports critical business and processing needs for corporate clients through international trade services, supply chain finance, and corporate trust services. With offices in the U.S., Canada, EMEA, and APAC, nearly 6,000 Commercial Capital team members are committed to helping customers succeed financially by allowing them to optimize liquidity and grow their businesses.
A more than thirty-year veteran of Wells Fargo, Marks has built businesses, led risk management functions, and supported other high-priority initiatives across a variety of functions within the company. Prior roles include head of Capital Finance, head of Corporate Banking, as well as senior credit officer for Corporate Banking, Wells Fargo Securities, and other investment portfolios. Marks was also the group risk officer for Consumer Lending and the Payments, Virtual Solutions, and Innovation Groups.
Marks is a member of the Wells Fargo Management Committee, president of Wells Fargo Bank International Corporation (Edge Act Corporation), and is the executive sponsor of the Wholesale Engagement Council. A strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, Marks has sponsored initiatives to increase the hiring and retention of ethnically and racially diverse team members, and is passionate about supporting military veterans both professionally and personally.
Marks earned his bachelor’s degree in History from Carleton College. Currently based in San Francisco, Marks has worked in Minneapolis, Hong Kong, London, and Los Angeles over the course of his career.
