David Norcott

Business Development Director at Wessex Archaeology

David Norcott joined Wessex Archaeology in 1999 as a field archaeologist and spent half a dozen happy, muddy years working on some outstanding archaeology and developing a healthy obsession with site formation processes. He subsequently formalised this specialism with an MSc and moved into the geoarchaeology team, which he went on to lead from 2013.

An analytical problem-solver at heart, as a technical and project manager he particularly enjoyed working with their experts across a range of technical disciplines to design and deliver innovative and effective solutions to managing the historic environment for their clients in a range of challenging environments.

Through playing an increasingly prominent role in the infrastructure and framework bids and the development of international opportunities - particularly in the offshore renewables sector – he was appointed to his current position of Business Development Director.

In this role, David aims to shape the future work pipeline, as well as to build it. They want to work with partners who share their values, work collaboratively towards sustainable outcomes, and are interested in the value they can add for communities and the environment through cultural heritage.

Outside of work, David enjoys running with the dog, messing about on the water, and drinking cocktails – not necessarily in that order.
