Mill Manager

Job description

Be a part of the initial team to grow and operate a regionally significant new underground mine development that is rapidly becoming the future of the iconic Red Lake gold mining district in Ontario, Canada.

Reporting to the Mine General Manager,  the successful candidate plans, administers and reviews the
production activities of the mill operations to live the safety culture, optimize resource use, minimize costs and
maintain quality standards. The Mill Manager will inspire the mill team to create a safe, motivated and
productive environment which leads to innovative continuous improvement.  The Mill Manager  will work locally on a 5-2/4-3 schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensures mill activities are conducted in accordance with the Occupational Health and
Safety Act (Ontario) and Regulations and environmental standards
• Complies with all safety requirements and observes all company policies and procedures
• Assists with the development of production targets and ensures production targets are
met or exceeded
• Develops schedules, budget (annual and LOM) and ensures these are controlled and
managed effectively
• Monitors production results on a progressive basis and prepares monthly progress and
variance reports
• Maintains effective working relationships with Contractors, Suppliers and Service
Providers, and ensures adherence to contractual requirements
• Develops a sense of continuous improvement and ensures appropriate training programs
are in place to meet safety and production requirements
• Maintains knowledge of current statutory requirements and industry best practices and
ensures compliance at all times
• Interfaces with other managers and superintendents as part of the management team
• Reviews mill processes and implements optimization programs where appropriate
• Manages Mill employment levels to achieve planned results
• Manages the mill team and develops goals and objectives for direct reports and
monitors and assesses their performance
• Other duties as may be required

Skills and Experience:
• A minimum of 15 years of operational/management experience of which at least 10 should be in
gold milling operations
• Post-secondary degree in a related field
• Strong leadership and team building skills to develop and maintain positive working relationships
• Proven safety record
• Instills a “team” approach in working with other operating/corporate departments
• Good problem solving and decision making skills as well as superior written and oral
communication skills
• Strong interpersonal, influencing, analytical and problem solving skills
