Michael T. Byers

Michael Byers is an experienced professional in higher education administration, currently serving as the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance at Western Carolina University since 2014. In this role, Michael oversees budget and financial planning, facilities operations, and various university departments while collaborating with the Chancellor and executive team on institutional priorities, including the development of the "Millennium Campus." Prior to this position, Michael worked at UNC Greensboro from 1995 to 2014 in various roles, ultimately serving as Associate Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs, where responsibilities included managing a $30M+ budget and a staff of over 350 employees. Michael's background also includes roles in auxiliary services and facilities management, beginning with a foundational position at ServiceMaster. Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
