Candace Brunette-Debassige

Special Advisor to the Provost Indigenous Initiatives at Western University

Candace Brunette-Debassige is the Special Advisor to the Provost Indigenous Initiatives at Western University. Candace has dedicated their career to working with Indigenous peoples and communities, and has held various positions involving outreach, student services, and funding. In their current role, they are responsible for overseeing the delivery of culturally-relevant projects, services, and programs that further the Indigenous-related strategic level commitments of Western University.

Candace Brunette-Debassige has a PhD in Critical Policy Equity and Leadership Studies from Western University. Candace also has a Master of Arts in Aboriginal Education from the University of Toronto, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Aboriginal Studies and Equity Studies from the same school. In addition, they have completed a summer intensive program in theatre/theater from the Centre for Indigenous Theatre, and has also done yoga teacher training.

Candace Brunette-Debassige reports to Andrew N. Hrymak, Provost & VP Academic. They are on a team with Michael Milde - Dean Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Davy Cheng - Acting Dean Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, and Sharon Hodgson - Dean Ivey Business School.
