Michael Leonhirth - Cism C

Michael Leonhirth has extensive work experience in the field of information security. Michael currently holds the position of Senior Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer at WEX since September 2022. Prior to this role, they served as the Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer at WEX since March 2014.

Before joining WEX, Michael worked at Freddie Mac from 2009 to 2014. During their time there, they held various positions including Sr. Director, Information Security Risk & Governance, Principal, Information Security, and Director, Information Security.

In addition, Michael has worked at Cotton & Company as a Senior Manager in 2009, KPMG LLP as a Director, IT Advisory / Information Protection & Assurance from 1999 to 2008, Media General as an IT Security Manager from 1994 to 1999, and Heilig Meyers as an Information Technology Auditor from 1992 to 1994.

Michael Leonhirth - CISSP CISM CRISC graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Virginia Tech - Pamplin College of Business with a specialization in Computer and Information Systems Security/Information Assurance in 1992. Prior to that, they attended Virginia Commonwealth University for Business & Information Systems in 1989 and Liberty University for Business in 1988. In terms of certifications, Michael obtained the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) certification in 1995, the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification in 1997, the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification in 2004, and the Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) certification from ISACA in 2011.
