Toby Northcote-Smith

Toby Northcote-Smith is the current Head of Engineering at Whatnot. Prior to this, they were the Director of Product Engineering at Syng, and before that, they were the Head of Mobile Product at Ring. Toby has also held positions at Grindr and FANiAC. Toby is a founder and former Head of Product at zeezao.

Toby's experience includes 6 weeks spent volunteering as a chef with World Central Kitchen, during which they contributed to the delivery of 675000 meals to Ukrainian refugees at the border. Toby has also been with Whatnot since July 2021 and is responsible for building the best product engineering team. Whatnot is on the list of top YC companies and is the top company of the YC Winter 2020 batch!

Toby Northcote-Smith has a MEng in Manufacturing Systems Engineering / Engineering Management from the University of Hertfordshire and a BEng in Mech/Elec Services Engineering from London South Bank University.
