Leela Samaroo

Leela Samaroo has extensive experience in animal care, particularly in ornithology, serving as a Wild Animal Keeper in the Ornithology Department at the Wildlife Conservation Society since May 2014. Responsibilities include conducting daily routines, observing bird health, administering treatments, and hand-rearing various chick species. Prior roles include Animal Care Manager at the Wild Bird Fund, providing critical care for avian patients, and a Part-Time Nursery Caregiver at the ASPCA, focusing on neonatal kittens. Previous volunteer positions at Beech Brook Equine Rescue, Mystic Aquarium, and Staten Island Zoo contributed to a well-rounded background in animal husbandry and public education. Leela holds a degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a focus on Microbiology from Connecticut College.
