Maria Enquist-Newman has over twenty years of work experience. Maria began their career in 1998 as a Staff Research Associate at UC Berkeley. In 2000, they became a Graduate Student at the University of California, San Francisco, where they obtained their Ph.D. in 2009, they were employed as a Biochemist at Siemens Healthcare. From 2010 to 2014, they worked at Bio Architecture Lab as a Senior Scientist 1 and Senior Scientist 2. During this time, they also worked at Teknova as a Director of Research and Development. In 2014, they joined Intrexon Corporation as a Senior Scientist, then as an Associate Director, and then as a Director of Metabolic Engineering and Molecular Biology. From 2019 to 2023, they worked at Demetrix as a Senior Director of Strain Improvement, a Director of R&D Program Management, an Associate Director of Strain Engineering, and a Senior Scientist of Strain Engineering. Since 2023, they have been employed as a Scientific Program Manager at Wildtype.
Maria Enquist-Newman began their educational journey in 1994 when they attended the University of California, Berkeley and obtained their B.A. in Molecular and Cell Biology - Genetics in 1998. Maria then continued their studies at the University of California, San Francisco, where they earned their Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2007.
