Petersmark began their career in 1991 as the Manager of Children's Miracle Network at Sparrow Health System. In 2000, they joined Gray Television as the General Sales Manager of WILX Media. Debbie held this position for 4 years before being promoted to Vice President & General Manager in 2014.

Debbie Petersmark's educational career began with their earning a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Indiana University Bloomington. Debbie then went on to East Lansing High School to complete their schooling.
