Chao “Robert” Zheng is WATG’s Director of Development with a focus on the growing Asia market. With a strong knowledge of the industry and the business culture in the Asia market, he has the background and capabilities to respond to their client’s needs in highly developing areas such as India, China and various booming economies in Southeast Asia.
Robert’s contribution to WATG’s overall success in Asia can be seen in the ever-expanding portfolio in the region as well as the successful growth of their Singapore office. He has been instrumental in creating and implementing strategies for developing business opportunities in the Greater China market and acts as an advisor to new and returning clients. Joining the firm’s Honolulu office in 1996 he was responsible for tracking travel and tourism trends worldwide, as well as analyzing research data in support of the firm’s strategic directions. In 2007 he relocated to the Singapore office to assist with setting up a quickly growing office.
In 2012, Robert relocated back to the WATG Honolulu office to focus on the rising Hawaii and South Pacific markets while still continuing to service the Asia market. He is a past president of the Hawaii Mainland China Overseas Association which, under his leadership, more than tripled its membership. Robert has been a speaker at various tourism conferences in Asia and has led various China-related seminars and university classes in Hawaii. Robert is an active participant in travel and hospitality conferences around the world and was recently asked to be a member of the TIMI Board of Directors.
