Chris Gibson

UAS Design Team Lead Engineer at Windlift

Chris Gibson has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Chris began their career at Accurate Automation Corporation, where they served as Chief Engineer and played a key role in initiating and managing programs that resulted in new revenue streams and significant growth. Chris then co-founded Aerotonomy, Inc, a high-tech firm specializing in advanced technologies and engineering services, where they served as Chief Technical Officer and Chief Engineer. Chris successfully led the business to consistent revenue increases.

Chris went on to work at General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products as Manager of Engineering and Chief System Architect. In this role, they directed product development programs, managed technical vision, and oversaw budgets and schedules. Chris also served as the Business Development Manager at UTC Aerospace Systems, leading the development of a new product line and achieving market entry and product penetration in domestic and international markets.

In 2015, Chris joined the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Division of Aviation as the first Program Manager for their Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program Office. Chris led the startup phase of the program and collaborated with lawmakers and executive leadership to secure program approvals and funding. During this time, they also held a dual role at Sentera as the VP of Sales for Public Safety and Government market, and as a regional sales representative for agricultural software and sensor solutions.

More recently, Chris worked as the President and Independent Program Management Consultant at Gibson Sales Solutions, LLC, where they provided program development, business development, program management, and sales services to clients. Chris supported clients in building programs from conception through implementation and sustainment.

In their most recent role, Chris joined Windlift as the UAS Design Team Lead Engineer, contributing to their mission of producing energy for a sustainable civilization. Chris is involved in the development of the Airborne Power Generator (APG), focusing on creating highly mobile, reliable, and autonomous energy solutions.

Overall, Chris Gibson has demonstrated strong expertise in program management, business development, engineering, and sales across various industries.

Chris Gibson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from North Carolina State University, where they studied from 1990 to 1994. Chris further pursued a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the same university and completed it from 1994 to 1997. In terms of additional certifications, Gibson obtained the following: Project Lifesaver International UAS Instructor certification from Project Lifesaver International in February 2016, Vireo UAS Certified Operator & Instructor certification from UTC Aerospace Systems Sensors & Integrated Systems in November 2013, North Carolina UAS Commercial Operator Permit/Certification from the North Carolina Department of Transportation - Division of Aviation in May 2019, North Carolina UAS Government Operator Permit/Certification from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Division of Aviation in May 2019, and Part 107 Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operator/Pilot certification from the Federal Aviation Administration in April 2019.
