Miroslav Valan

Miroslav Valan began their career in 2012 with an Internship at The Istanbul University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. In 2013 they moved to the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences (VFU Brno) as a Researcher PHD Student. In 2014 they were a Visiting Researcher at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural Theirtory and at the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where their role was to learn how to preserve chigger mites (Acari:Trombiculidae) and basics about their taxonomy. In 2015 they were an Industrial PhD Student at the Swedish Museum of Natural Theirtory and a Data Scientist (AI/ML) and Data Scientist (Researcher) at Savantic AB. In 2019 they were a Researcher PhD Student at Stockholm University. In 2021 they joined Winningtemp as a Head of Data Science, Senior Data Scientist, and Machine Learning Engineer. Their roles include defining the data strategy, driving data-driven decision-making and innovation within the organization, overseeing the development of ML models and other data-driven solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement these solutions in a production environment, and managing the data resources, data governance, and compliance.

Miroslav Valan has a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Sarajevo, which they obtained from 2006-2013. Miroslav then went on to receive a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biology and Wildlife Diseases - ectoparasites of birds from the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno from 2013-2018. Following this, they obtained a Licentiate degree in Department of Zoology - Automated species recognition from Stockholm University from 2015-2019. Most recently, they have obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Deep Learning, Computer vision from Stockholm University from 2015-2020. In addition to these degrees, Miroslav Valan has also obtained certifications from LinkedIn in Develop Critical-Thinking, Decision-Making, and Problem-Solving Skills, Improve Your Creativity Skills, Advanced Pandas, Build Your Critical Thinking Skills, Faster pandas, and Improve Your Problem-Solving Skills.
