Tammy Schmitz (She/Her)

Director of The Nature Place at WisCorps

Tammy Schmitz received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from UW-La Crosse in 2009, beginning her career in non-profit youth development. She has served as a Disability Support Specialist at Catholic Charities and District Executive, Senior District Executive, and District Director at the Gateway Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. Tammy became acquainted with the WisCorps mission while the WisCorps Office neighbored the Boy Scout Office on Quarry Road. After years of enthusiastically watching the organization grow, Tammy excitedly joined the WisCorps team in September 2016 as the Facility and Events Coordinator.

Tammy grew up on French Island and resides there once again with her partner Jon and their dog Joplin. She enjoys traveling, spending time outside, perpetual pursuit of learning, and being involved in the community.

My communication style

  • Overcommunicative
  • open
  • transparent
  • genuine
  • positive

Communication is so important! I prefer open communication and more communication than less. My office door is often closed but it's ALWAYS metaphorically open! I am very distracted by noise and that is the only reason why my door is often shut. I want you to pop in anytime if you need anything at all. The only time closed door does not = metaphorical open door is if I'm in a zoom meeting. :) Feedback is love and I want to hear yours! Even if it's hard to hear, I'd prefer to know than not. Wherever my face and body language lands on the spectrum of, "thanks for telling me" to "this is hard to hear" please know that I still always, 100% want that feedback. If you are unsure if it's appropriate to come to me about a topic or question, just ask! Let's talk through it. And if I'm not the right person, I can tell you who is. Urgent or time-sensitive communication = call/text me! Nonurgent communication = slack me any day at any time. If I'm not working, I'm not on slack so don't ever worry about disturbing me at a certain time. My work schedule ebbs and flows but here is my typical week: - Mondays: at TNP, catchup, overflow meetings in afternoon. - Tuesdays: Projects and meeting prep! Often remote. I try not to schedule meetings. - Wednesdays & Thursdays: Meeting days at TNP! I try to schedule most meeting these days and overflow into M pm & F am when these are full. - Fridays: Catchup, meetings overflow in morning, projects overflow. Sometimes at TNP, sometimes remote. I like working long days M-Th and sometimes flex out time on Friday. If you feel like you aren't receiving enough communication from me or my team, please please please always let me know!

My pet peeves
