Nkem Agunwa

Project Coordinator, Africa at WITNESS

Nkem is an adept communicator and digital campaigner with almost a decade’s experience working in both national and international organizations. Through her work as a human rights activist, she has engaged extensively on issues of freedom of expression, police brutality, democracy and good governance. Her expertise in digital mass mobilization for action has resulted in a series of impactful campaigns over the course of her career.

As the Project Coordinator for Africa at WITNESS, her focus is on countering the proliferation of manipulated media and mis/disinformation that undermine the trustworthiness of video evidence and incite violence.

Before joining WITNESS, Nkem worked with the Nigeria Country office of Amnesty International where she developed and executed campaigns aimed at combating all forms of injustice. She has also trained and supported movement leaders, human rights defenders and activists to embark on effective human rights documentation and reporting in the pursuit of justice and accountability.

Nkem holds a PGD in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts.
