Chief Diversity, Equity And Inclusion Officer at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

Natalie Nevarez, Ph.D. is currently serving as the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. In 2020, they held roles as a Government Relations member in the Development Committee at SACNAS and as a Leadership Board Member at 500 Women Scientists. Prior to that, from 2020 to 2021, they worked as the Associate Director for Faculty Diversity and Development for Arts and Sciences at Columbia University. From 2019 to 2020, they were a Development Specialist for the Fellowship for the Future at 500 Women Scientists, focusing on planning the long-term development of the fund and designing an innovative fellowship experience for women of color. Earlier in their career, they served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University School of Medicine, focusing on researching neural mechanisms and founding the Latinx Postdocs organization. Natalie earned their M.S. and Ph.D. in Biopsychology from the University of Michigan, where they conducted research on dopaminergic regulation and co-founded the Mentoring Youth and Early Leaders in Neuroscience (MYELIN) program. Natalie also gained research experience as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Arizona, working with the Anxiety Research Group and in Communication Studies.

Natalie Nevarez, Ph.D. obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biopsychology from the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts from 2012 to 2017. Prior to that, they completed their undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona from 2008 to 2012 with a focus on Communication and Psychology. Natalie also holds an Associate's degree in General Studies, which they obtained from Arizona Western College in the period of 2004 to 2008. Natalie completed their high school education at San Luis High School in the same time frame as their studies at Arizona Western College. Additionally, Natalie obtained a certification in Campaign Management from The Campaign School at Yale in 2021.
