Marlen Heide has a diverse work experience in various organizations. In 2009, Marlen worked as a Project Coordinator at the Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany, where they were responsible for conceptualizing and implementing networking and discussion formats on conflicts in the South Caucasus. In 2011, Marlen worked as a Consultant at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy at the University of Erfurt, where they conducted data analysis and report writing for a review of reform processes in Georgia. Marlen also worked as a Researcher at The Caucasus Research Resource Centers, conducting analysis and survey design on corruption in the South Caucasus.
Marlen joined Transparency International in 2011, initially as a Research Officer, conducting research and trainings on corruption risks in Europe and methodology for National Integrity System Assessments. Later, they worked as an Executive Officer to the Chair, facilitating communication and coordination between TI's Chair, senior management, and external stakeholders.
In 2014, Marlen joined Transparify as a Reviewer, and in the same year, they also started working at USI Università della Svizzera italiana as an Academic Researcher. At USI, Marlen served as a Postdoctoral Researcher, Lecturer, and Academic Researcher, contributing to research and teaching activities.
In 2018, Marlen worked as a Consultant at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, conducting sessions and developing training packages on ethics and integrity in public institutions for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
From 2019 to 2022, Marlen worked as a Consultant at Ecorys, providing expert analysis and responding to information requests on corruption and anti-corruption in Germany for the European Commission DG Home Network of Local Research Correspondents.
Most recently, in 2021, Marlen served as a Visiting Lecturer at Sciences Po, and as of April 2022, they hold the position of Lead in the Institutional Governance Department at the World Economic Forum.
Marlen Heide began their education in 2004 at Universität Erfurt, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Staatswissenschaften (Economics, Politics, Sociology). Marlen completed this degree in 2007. In the same year, Marlen attended Boğaziçi University, focusing on International Relations and Economy for a brief period. Continuing their academic journey, they joined King's College London in 2007 and obtained a Master of Arts degree in War Studies in 2008. Marlen's educational pursuits culminated in 2019 when they successfully completed their PhD degree at USI Università della Svizzera italiana.
