Head Of Private Sector Engagement & Strategic Partnerships, Tropical Forest Alliance at World Economic Forum

Petra Tanos has a diverse work experience in the sustainability and agriculture sectors. Petra started their career as a Project Coordinator at Slow Food in 2006, where they coordinated projects related to sustainable food systems. Petra then worked as an Associate in Sustainable Value Chains at Rainforest Alliance from 2008 to 2011, where they focused on developing markets for Rainforest Alliance Certified™ products.

From 2011 to 2012, Petra served as a Business Development & CSR Manager at Martin Bauer Group, where they were responsible for managing business development activities and implementing corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Petra returned to Rainforest Alliance in 2013 as a Project Manager in Sustainable Agriculture, where they managed the implementation of sustainable agriculture projects and developed value chains for cocoa, coffee, tea, spice, and coconut in collaboration with various stakeholders. Petra also represented Rainforest Alliance at conferences and events and worked on project proposals and marketing activities.

In 2014, Petra joined IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances) as a Global Sustainability Project Manager, where they developed and implemented a global sustainability strategy, with a focus on sustainable sourcing and sustainability reporting. Petra also managed the production of IFF's annual GRI sustainability report and supported employee engagement initiatives.

Since 2015, Petra has been with the World Economic Forum, initially as a Community Lead in the Agriculture, Food and Beverage Industry and as a Global Leadership Fellow. Petra later held various roles at the Tropical Forest Alliance, including Manager, Head of Operations, and currently, Head of Private Sector Engagement & Strategic Partnerships.

Overall, Petra Tanos has demonstrated expertise in sustainable agriculture, value chain development, project management, and corporate sustainability strategy.

Petra Tanos completed their high school education at Richard Montgomery High School. Petra then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in History at the University of Maryland, where they studied from 1998 to 2002. Following that, they attended UCL in 2003 and 2004, obtaining a Master of Arts degree in History of Art. Finally, Petra attended the University of Gastronomic Sciences - Pollenzo from 2004 to 2007, where they earned a Laurea degree in Food & Agriculture Studies.
