Silja Baller

Head, Diversity, Equity And Inclusion, Centre For The New Economy And Society at World Economic Forum

Silja Baller has had a diverse work experience in various organizations. Silja began their career at The World Bank, East Asia and Pacific, working as a JPA from 2006 to 2008. Silja then moved on to PricewaterhouseCoopers, where they worked as a Senior Associate Economics for a brief period from April to August 2008.

From 2010 to 2014, Silja worked at the University of Oxford, Department of Economics, serving as a Doctoral Student and later as a College Lecturer in Economics.

In 2014, they joined the Université de Genève as a Postdoctoral Researcher and worked there until October 2015.

Silja's most recent and current employment is with the World Economic Forum, where they have held multiple roles within the Centre for the New Economy and Society. Silja started as a Practice Lead for Competitiveness and Innovation from November 2015 to February 2018. From March 2018 to February 2022, they worked as an Insight Lead for Economic Growth, Recovery, and Transformation. Silja then served as the Acting Head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion from March 2022 to October 2022 before assuming their current position as the Head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within the Centre for the New Economy and Society in November 2022.

Silja Baller's education history includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Trinity College at the University of Cambridge, which they obtained from 2000 to 2003. From 2003 to 2005, they pursued a Master's degree in International Relations at the Geneva Graduate Institute, specializing in Economics, Public International Law, and International History. Lastly, Silja pursued their MPhil and Ph.D. (DPhil) in Economics with a focus on International Trade at the University of Oxford from 2008 to 2014.
