David Atchoarena

David Atchoarena currently serves as the Executive Director at the World Health Organization, a position held since May 2023. Prior to this role, David Atchoarena was the Director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning and Director of the Division for Lifelong Learning Policies and Systems from July 2009 to May 2023. David Atchoarena also led the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP-UNESCO) as Head of the Training and Education Programme and Team Leader for Higher Education and Specialized Training from November 1991 to 2009, focusing on educational planning, management, and capacity building. Earlier in the career, David Atchoarena worked with the Agence nationale pour le Développement de l'Education Permanente and the Government of Saint Lucia, contributing to educational policy development and project coordination. David Atchoarena holds a Doctorate in Development Economics and Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Educational Planning and Economics from prestigious Paris institutions.
