Steven Beck

Trade Finance Working Group at World Trade Organization

Steven Beck has extensive experience in international trade and finance. Steven is currently a Member of the Governing Board at the International Chamber of Commerce's Digital Standards Initiative, where they are involved in creating infrastructure for seamless digital trade globally.

Previously, Steven served as the Head of Trade and Supply Chain Finance at the Asian Development Bank, where they built the Trade and Supply Chain Finance Programs and designed new supply chain finance business. Steven also mapped the entire supply chain for COVID-related goods to identify bottlenecks.

Steven was a member of the Trade Finance Working Group at the World Trade Organization, where they assessed market sufficiency for trade finance and initiated actions to close market gaps.

Steven has also held roles at the International Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Advisory Board for the Banking Commission, and at a management consulting firm, where they worked on projects for USAID in Mozambique, Botswana, and South Africa, and collaborated with the Cafesjian Foundation to start a new financial institution in Armenia.

Additionally, Steven worked at the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank, overseeing trade finance and financial institutions. Steven played a central role in the bank's startup and devised a sustainability strategy for long-term funding and institutional partnerships.

Earlier in their career, Steven was a Senior Manager at CIBC, where they structured trade and export finance projects and initiated trade missions. Steven also worked for the Government of Canada as a Special Assistant to the Minister of Finance and International Trade, where they acted as a liaison between the Minister's office and Export Development Canada.

Throughout their career, Steven has demonstrated expertise in trade and supply chain finance, international policy, market assessment, and public-private partnerships.

Steven Beck earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from Queen's University, where they studied from 1985 to 1989. Steven further pursued their education at The Fletcher School at Tufts University, where they obtained a Master's degree in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies, attending from 2006 to 2007.
