Kathleen Elsig has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Kathleen is currently the Director of Global Partnerships at World YMCA and the Vice President of Purpose and Sustainability at Kane Communications Group. Previously, they worked as a Senior Associate at The Partnering Initiative and held leadership positions at GAN Global Apprenticeship Network and WWF. Kathleen also has experience in strategic partnerships and outreach at EPFL, where they were involved in the Human Brain Project. Before that, they founded and directed a consultancy called smartmove, where they worked with international organizations and nonprofits to develop strategic partnerships. Kathleen's career also includes roles at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Dornier Group, where they focused on business development and project management.

Kathleen Elsig holds a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Modern Management for Non-Profits from the University of Geneva. Kathleen also has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Russian Studies and German Studies from the University of Southern California. In 2017 to 2018, they obtained a Diploma in Fundraising and Philanthropy from the Institute of Fundraising (IoF). Additionally, they have a Masters degree in Contemporary European Political Affairs from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Kathleen has obtained certifications in Project Management from The George Washington University School of Business and in Social Media Marketing from Northwestern University. Kathleen has also completed additional certifications, including B-Leaders Training from B Lab (Switzerland) and a course on Humanitarian Communication Addressing Key Challenges from the University of Geneva. Furthermore, they have completed the Leaders of Learning course by HarvardX, an online learning initiative by Harvard University through edX.
