Rohana Subasinghe

Worldfish/bmgf/usaid Aquaculture - Nigeria - Project Lead at WorldFish

Rohana Subasinghe has a diverse and extensive work experience in the aquaculture and fisheries sector. Rohana is currently a Board Member at the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) since 2022. In the same year, they also co-founded and became a Director at FUTUREFISH.

Prior to their current roles, Subasinghe worked at WorldFish from 2016 onwards. Rohana served as the Project Lead for the Worldfish/BMGF/USAID Aquaculture project in Nigeria starting from January 2019. Rohana also held the position of Senior Consultant at WorldFish, starting from January 2016.

With a career spanning over three decades, Subasinghe also worked at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) since 1994. Rohana held various roles at FAO during this time, including Chief from June 2014 to October 2015, Senior Aquaculture Officer from January 2000 to May 2014, and Aquatic Animal Health Officer from September 1994 to December 1999.

Rohana Subasinghe has a Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Aquaculture and Aquatic Animal Health from the University of Stirling. Additionally, they have a Master of Science degree (MSc) in Aquaculture and Aquatic Animal Health from the University of Plymouth. They also hold a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) in Zoology from the University of Colombo.
